Book Feature & Review – Legacy of Temptation by Larissa Ione

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Another book feature today from the lovely people at GetRed PR – I always love working with them and the variety of books I get to share.

LEGACY OF TEMPTATION – Larissa Ione (Released February 6th, 2024)

This is book one in the Demonica Birthright Series

Book Description:

Eva Tennant, like everyone at The Aegis, hates demons. But she loves her job as Deputy Spokesperson for the global demon-slaying organization, and she’s excited to be in the running for Chief Spokesperson. All she has to do is not screw up the two-week exchange program with The Aegis’s rival agency, the Demon Activity Response Team. But things go horribly wrong when a murder turns her into a fugitive from justice and puts a demonic target on her back.

Logan, son of the Horseman of the Apocalypse known as Death, has dedicated his life to fighting demons alongside his colleagues at DART. He loves fighting, females, and his pet hellhound, Cujo. What he doesn’t love is The Aegis, whose leadership attempted to slaughter him at birth. Understandably, he balks when he’s ordered to protect an Aegis Guardian responsible for the deaths of his friends. Really, he’d rather feed her to Cujo.

But when an old enemy rises from the ashes, Eva and Logan find themselves giving into temptation even as they sacrifice the things…and people…they love the most.

My Thoughts: 4/5 stars

This is the start of a new series from Ione, the Demonica Birthright series, and based on other reviews this is branching off of previous series of hers. This appears to be the culmination of the Demonica series and the Lords of Deliverance series. Ones that I definitely want to go back and read so that I can get some better insight into the characters and backgrounds. This takes place decades after the end of those series and is the next generation (from what I’ve gathered from other reviewers). Not knowing this when I started the book didn’t have any effect on my reading enjoyment and how I felt about the story and characters. You can read this as a standalone but I can tell the majority of readers were thrilled to be back in this universe and the Easter eggs throughout.

This is a slower burn story but it ended up being so worth it. I know a lot of paranormal romance books tend to have faster pacing and I always end up flying through the book, but this one you slowly have unravel and the author gives you enough to keep pulling you along. Plenty of spicy moments and the world building was truly a spectacle. I think that because of the author’s attention to detail with this aspect made it even better. This is why I really didn’t realize this was related to previous books of hers. The characters were well-developed and I’m very anxious to see where book two takes us and them. Also, who can’t appreciate a hellhound named Cujo – this Constant Reader got a kick out of that.

So if you’re a fan of angels, demons, vampires, shifters, romance, intricate world building, and a perfectly paced slow burn, then you need to get this on your TBR. Now, time to go find the other series and get introduced to the previous generation of characters!
