My Thoughts: 4/5 stars
I have loved the Wicked Vows series from Jane Henry but this is my first standalone book from her (technically, you COULD read those as standalones, but they’re so amazing there’s no reason to not read them all). Before starting OBSESSION, I had no idea that this was actually a previously published duet from her. (ATONEMENT and VENGEANCE) Which makes sense to me now after having read it, because there seemed to be a point where it felt like a ‘conclusion’ of sorts but the story continued. Once again, shorter chapters and a quick pace kept this story rolling. Plenty of action and spice to keep you on the edge of your seat.
I love the characters that Henry creates for her readers. Cain and Violet are quite the pair and they work so well together. Plenty of balance between their personalities but all of the support for each other when it’s needed. Why would Violet stand in his way when he’s giving these bad men what they deserve? Unless she wants to get in a punch or two.
If you’re not a fan of violence and some gore, then probably enter this with caution. Not a fan of dark romance and lots of spice? Maybe one to skip. I know these aren’t for everyone, but if those check all of your boxes, then you NEED to pick this book up. If you’ve read the duet already, I know this is as revised version, so maybe worth checking out to see how they flow together as one! I highly recommend this book and Henry as an author in general – I think I’ve finally found an auto-buy author in a new genre I’ve come to devour.
