Another complete series in one edition – here we have HOUSE OF HEATHENS. This is the Gods Among Men trilogy and also an interconnected universe with her books PRIMAL and HEATHENS – all taking place in the same city and characters that have briefly interacted. Have no fear, it is not required reading in order to enjoy this trilogy!
It’s always harder to rate these when it’s the collection of a series, so I tend to just average it out. Overall, I loved the characters, Heathens Hollow, the spice, the violence and cut throat nature of the family, but there were just some pieces of the books that weren’t my favorite. Like in book two (MONSTERS ARE HIDDEN) – Phoenix’s reason for punishing Ani bothered me. Like, sure, I get it. However, it wasn’t just her secret and she didn’t want to go behind other people’s backs. Otherwise, I loved meeting Apollo (Ares), Phoenix, and the badass and ruthless woman that is Athena.
I think having the stories all together is a nice touch because then you can just continue on with the story and the characters with everything fresh in your mind. I think overall, the first book was my favorite, with Apollo and Daphne. If you want some SPICE and ruthless characters, or if you liked the Heathens Hollow books, then I highly recommend picking this up from Hensley. Now, I need to go find my next book of hers to devour!
