My Thoughts: 4/5 stars
Normally I’m not the biggest fan of anything Christmas themed, but I think this year they’re starting to grow on me. I’ve found some across different genres this season so far and when they’re done well then I’ve found I’m really enjoying them! This was a quick and spicy darker romance that I read within a day – Alta’s writing is addictive and she keeps the story moving quickly and has enough excitement throughout the book. The ending in this one? Loved it and even though I knew something was going to happen with a certain character, I didn’t correctly guess WHAT happened. Well done – as someone that reads numerous thrillers and mysteries, it’s always great to be wrong about the twist or ending.
I don’t want to give away much because the synopsis is perfect, but I loved Jack and Chloe, neither made me mad at how dumb they were. That’s always a plus. Sometimes these books can have some main characters making the most frustrating decisions but Hensley gave us the right amount of flaws in these two that they were more relatable than irritating. Highly recommend and of course, remember, with dark romance, there is a plethora of trigger warnings, so read with caution if any of the tropes might be hard to read.
