My Thoughts – This is book one in a new vampire supernatural romance trilogy! If you like vampires and cowboys, then this is the book for you. I’ve never really read anything with the cowboy trope before but I’ve learned that I love horror and Westerns, so this had to be a good combo, right?
Rowan’s world is turned upside down when her best friend is murdered and it looks like it could be by a vampire. Growing up, she was obsessed and spent hours at the library devouring anything she could about vampires – from the lore to Dracula. Now she’s trying to come to terms with the fact that they could be real.
Sylas is her best friend’s boyfriend and their lives are about to get a whole lot more complicated when both are turned into vampires. The smoldering chemistry between them is there but you’ll be waiting a while for the spice to kick in. I was hoping for more but the vampires and blood sucking and fighting was great.
My one and only major problem with this story is that they can see themselves and the changes in the mirror – when it’s pretty well known across vampire lore that they don’t have reflections. Otherwise I’m very curious to see where this will continue in the trilogy. There was a lot of story and details and events packed into one book, so I’m hoping there’s more to help create the wider picture and bring some clarity to pieces!
