My Thoughts: 5/5 stars
This was my introduction to Ashley Elizabeth and I couldn’t put it down! BROKEN IN THE DARK has the elements you want in a dark romance novel and I do love a mafia/organized crime/billionaire family and their compound for a set up. This also means that we’ll have some more in the series that will be interconnected – I love when there are multiple brothers or siblings so the stories can grow. This is book one and is 100% a standalone. The chapters are quick, we alternate between our FMC and MMC for perspectives, and there is plenty of action and some violence towards the end!
I think it’s best to mention that there is a full trigger warning list but before starting it does deal with SA (off page) and the resulting trauma I think was handled very well by the author. Watching Scarlett grow and heal throughout the book was incredible and the patience that Leo had with her was swoon worthy. I loved them together and seeing them reunite after 7 years was wonderful and showed that they truly were a match from the beginning. This man will go scorched Earth for her and is willing to do whatever it takes to kill the man that took her. Oh, and when there’s spice, it’s spicy – nothing closed door in this book!
