One of the many indie horror books that Chandra grabbed for me at AuthorCon this year!
FOOD COURT OF THE DAMNED – H.W. Hitz (Released February 17th, 2025)
This cover just goes so perfectly with my nails and I love when that happens

Book Description:
In this 1990s schlocky horror throwback, a group of Floridian teens get summer jobs at the mall to pay for their trip to a music festival. Unfortunately, working at this mall’s food court comes with a price, and they will be lucky if they escape with both their lives and their souls.
My Thoughts: 5/5 stars
How can a book make me almost miss the mall food court where I grew up?? Fun fact: Edina, MN is home to the first shopping mall in the United States! And I was a 5 minute drive from it. The 90’s mall vibes were immaculate in this super fun and bloody little horror read.
Some friends get jobs at the mall for the summer to save up for a music festival – food court should be an easy gig, right? Well, something odd and evil is happening to the other employees. Slowly, one by one, people are turning, and there’s a concerning sauce being added to the food. Will they survive and get to the bottom of it, or will they fall victim to the same fate?
I got some major Blood Sucking Basterds movie vibes – people at work slowly turning evil, and something isn’t quite right. Funny, wild, all the gore, and a stroll down the nostalgic halls of the 1990s shopping malls in all of their glory.
I absolutely loved Blood Sucking Bastards, so I’ll have to pick this one up. Is this one also more cozy than horrific? Like your last book review?

I’d say more on the side of horrific than cozy, but it’s so fun!

Perfect. I’m not a big cozy reader.
