OVERGROWTH – Mira Grant (Released May 6th, 2025)

Book Description:
Day of the Triffids meets Little Shop of Horrors in this smart, charming, harrowing alien invasion story about being human, by a Hugo-award winning author.
Since she was three years old, Anastasia Miller has been telling anyone who would listen that she’s an alien disguised as a human being, and that the armada that left her on Earth is coming for her. Since she was three years old, no one has believed her.
Now, with an alien signal from the stars being broadcast around the world, humanity is finally starting to realize that it’s already been warned, and it may be too late. The invasion is coming, Stasia’s biological family is on the way to bring her home, and very few family reunions are willing to cross the gulf of space for just one misplaced child.
What happens when you know what’s coming, and just refuse to listen?
My Thoughts: 5/5 stars
If a child came up to you and told you that she was an alien in disguise and they were coming to take over the world, would you believe them? At the ripe age of three, Stasia felt a draw to something in the woods, and she wandered off. After an encounter with a mysterious plant, she will tell anyone who will listen that she is an alien who came from space and sprouted on Earth.
Even into adulthood, she continues to tell everyone she meets that she is an alien and that there will be an invasion. Again, no one believes her and understandably finds her odd. That is until an alien signal is received and the world realizes they’ve ignored all of the warnings. With the countdown starting, what will humanity do?
I thought this was super creepy and ominous. I loved being in Stasia’s POV the entire time. From childhood to adulthood, seeing her change and evolve. Coming to terms with being in a human form and not actually being who she is. A found family to remember and some body horror you won’t soon forget! Will being raised by and with humans help sway Stasia in favor of humanity or the invasion? This a stellar mix of science fiction and horror, drama, danger, and overall thought-provoking. It is a little on the slower side for pacing, so I know that’ll be good to keep in mind when starting!
