THE MISSING GIRLS by Carol Wyer is a serial killer thriller you won’t want to miss!
Here’s what Chandra and I thought!
Chandra’s Thoughts: 5/5 stars
Book 3 in the DI Robyn Carter series doesn’t slow down in the slightest. Carol Wyer opens up each book with a prologue that just sucks you right in. No punches held back in her stories – NOPE! We are opened with a girl waking up disoriented in a dark room, held captive and unsure why. Dun dun dun!!! Then in a drug bust turned dead body found, a young girl is found in a trunk, wrapped in plastic and the case begins.
Bringing back the entire cast, we get Ross, Carter’s cousin, on a missing dog case that turns into a missing persons report. Carter has to deal with her new boss, Flint, and he clearly is not a fan of hers. Maybe it’s her unconventional ways… her acting on instinct rather than following proper procedure. Either way, she has something to prove now. With the help of Anna, Matt, Mitz, etc.. (and do we see some further relationship ties happening here too?? ), we really start seeing how they play off each other and have their roles in each case. Readers also get even more involved in Carter’s personal life and her relationship with her ex-fiancee’s, Davies, daughter. As they have mourned the passing of Davies, they have continued to strengthen their bond as Carter stays active in Amelie’s life.
This book delves into bullying, which we all know is a huge issue in this day and age. A highly relevant subject matter to touch upon. And quite frankly, if you read this series (and you SHOULD), I recommend you read the Letter from Carol at the end as she takes her real life experiences and uses those for her stories. For example, in Secrets of the Dead (book 2) she uses her real life stalker experience. It’s quite interesting and makes me love her books even more.
To sum up, just read this series. And while they can be read as stand alones, I recommend starting from the beginning so you can get the full feel of each character as they grow. Especially since this book left quite the cliffhanger!
My Thoughts: 5/5 stars
When Carol Wyer comes out with another DI Robyn Carter story I have to read it! Books one and two (LITTLE GIRL LOST and SECRETS OF THE DEAD) were amazing and this one was no different! “Long shadows danced on the tin walls. Inside the trunk lay Carrie Miller, wrapped in plastic, arms folded across her ribcage, lips sealed tight forever…” How could I NOT read this??
Detective Robyn Carter finds herself in the middle of another serial killer case. A girl’s body is found in a storage unit, but it is too decomposed for Carter to see any signs left by the killer.
Her leads go dry when no one can identify the woman that was renting the storage unit – just that she was in blue. But then another body is found. This time, Robyn finds distinct markings on the victim’s skeleton, ones that match the scratches found on the first victim.
When another girl goes missing – someone close to Robyn – the pressure is on to find her before the killer strikes again! Will she be able to make it in time to save the life of someone she loves?
I seriously don’t know how Carol Wyer does it! All three books in her series have been phenomenal and chilling to the bone. How she manages to come up with an even more twisted serial killer than her last is just beyond me. And the twists! One thing I’ve come to love about her books is that there are so many curve balls thrown at the reader. You think you know what’s going on and then BAM! Nope, you were wrong the entire time.
In other words, you need to get the Detective Robyn Carter series, now. I hope there’s a book four coming!
If you want a fast-paced serial killer thriller with crazy twists you won’t see coming, then go get THE MISSING GIRLS by Carol Wyer!
