Happy belated release!

Thanks to Grove Atlantic for the copy in exchange for my honest review.

THE END WE START FROM by Megan Hunter (out yesterday!)

Such a beautiful cover and a quick little dystopian read.

My Thoughts: 4/5 stars!

THE END WE START FROM by Megan Hunter is short dystopian novel about a new mother trying to survive a terrifying setting. The world as they knew it is now unstable and dangerous, and the population must adjust to these changes.

As London becomes submerged below flood waters, a woman is giving birth to her first child, referred to as Z. As this environmental crisis begins to escalate the family and their newborn are forced to abandon their home to find safety. As they continue their traveling to find new shelters, Z continues to grow and thrive. I don’t want to give away too much more since it is a novella.

This was a very different kind of novella. The writing was very sparse and the reader isn’t given a lot of detail (understandable in a book that’s 125 pages!). I kind of liked the mystery of it and getting the necessary information for the story to continue. The contrast between the two elements was what I really liked. The excitement and beauty of new motherhood and a newborn child, but in a dangerous world with disaster striking.

Overall, if you like dystopian stories and novellas, then I’d highly recommend this one! It does have a different kind of writing style, but it’s still beautifully written.

Are you a fan of novellas? I personally love short stories.
