WE SOLD OUR SOULS – Grady Hendrix (out tomorrow!)

My Thoughts: 5/5 stars!
I previously read MY BEST FRIEND’S EXORCISM and PAPERBACKS FROM HELL and both were 5 star reads for me. Hendrix has such a unique and refreshing writing style that I absolutely love. We get the self-aware horror that I’m a huge fan of – probably a reason why the Scream franchise is my favorite. That is no different here in WE SOLD OUR SOULS.
Kris was once a guitarist for a hugely popular metal band in the 1990’s but now she’s working the front desk at a Best Western. What changed? Well, the lead singer of her band, Dürt Würk, sold her and the rest of the band out for his own fame. When driving home from work on night she is stopped dead in her tracks (or lane in traffic) when she sees a billboard with him on it announcing his farewell tour. Something inside her is awakened and she desperately tries to remember what truly happened all those years ago.
As the journey progresses we get to meet the other band members and get some background on how they found each other 20 years ago. There are so many unique characters throughout this book and Hendrix gives them each their own voice. Kris is anything but your typical female protagonist – she’s wonderfully flawed and completely badass. Then on the flip-side, we have antagonists that are the stuff of nightmares. I always love a good villain!
If you love the old metal bands and horror, then you need to grab this book! Plenty of music, twists, and some horror gore, you won’t want to miss this one.
What is your favorite book by Grady Hendrix? I still need to read HORRORSTOR – definitely has been bumped up the list now!
