Don’t Follow – Odette Lane

I’m a sucker for anything set in Minnesota – and it’s horror. So bonus!

Thanks to the author for the free ebook copy in exchange for my honest review.

Here’s the synopsis:

After her father suffers a devastating heart attack, Charlotte abandons an advertising career in New York and returns home to Minnesota to help out at her dad’s pub. Since college, Charlotte has struggled with sleep paralysis where she is haunted by a shadowy creature that continues to prey upon her in her sleep. Desperate for answers, she signs up for an experimental sleep study. Charlotte’s life quickly becomes interwoven with five other strangers who are also part of the study. Scott, a charming drunk regular at her father’s bar. Brenda, a sexually provocative photographer. Deanna, a sad and quiet office worker. Jerek, a clairvoyant bartender. And Charlie, an unemployed stoner. The darkness that binds each of them becomes stronger as their lives intertwine, unleashing a long dormant demon into their collective world.

Set in inner city Minneapolis, these strangers find love, loss, heartache, and clarity as they unite to try and banish the demon with the glowing hand back to hell.

My Thoughts: 4/5 stars!

Looking for a new horror novel to pick up? Well, you’ll want to check out Odette Lane’s debut DON’T FOLLOW. Set in Minnesota, Charlotte has suffered from sleep paralysis for years, and is haunted by a shadowy figure. She joins an experimental sleep study with five others. Little do they know, their lives are about to become more intertwined than they ever imagined when a demon is unleashed.

If you’re a big fan of horror, then I can see this being one you’ll want on that TBR. I don’t want to give away much more, but I really enjoyed the twist the author throws at us. She keeps you on your toes and really develops each character. With a larger cast of characters some of them can get lost in the background, but everyone had a unique voice and we got to know them well. Plenty of creepy moments and an ominous feel throughout kept me completely engaged.

I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from Lane in the future. Here’s to more books set in Minnesota!
