THE SHADOW BOX – Luanna Rice (Released February 1st, 2021)

Book Description:

The Amazon Charts bestselling author of Last Day delivers a haunting thriller about how far one wife is willing to go to expose the truth―and the lengths someone will go to stop her.

After artist Claire Beaudry Chase is attacked and left for dead in her home on the Connecticut coast, she doesn’t know who she can trust. But her well-connected husband, Griffin―who is running for governor―is her prime suspect.

Just before the attack, Claire was preparing for an exhibit of her shadow boxes, one of which clearly accuses Griffin of a violent crime committed twenty-five years ago. If the public were to find out who her husband is, his political career would be over. Claire’s certain her husband and his powerful supporters would kill her to stop the truth from getting out.

When one of Claire’s acquaintances is murdered, the authorities suspect the homicide is linked to the attack on Claire. As the dual investigations unfold, Claire must decide how much she’s willing to lose to take down her husband and the corrupt group of elites who will do anything to protect Griffin’s interests and their own.

Chandra’s Thoughts: 4/5 stars

I’m typically a paperback > hardcover kinda gal but every once in a while when you casually take a book’s jacket off for safe keeping, you get absolutely STUNNED by what’s inside. **swoon** Yes, I went from *I to you* in a horribly constructed sentence but I’m still swooning too much to care.

To the book! —-> The opening is quite the attention getter – instantly hooked. ..There is quite the cast of characters and the pacing of the back and forth in different increments of time can be a little off putting. However, once you get used to that, you FLY through the pages. If you read a lot of mysteries/thrillers like I do, then there’s really nothing new here. What a fun ride though – think Lifetime or WE.

Grab your bucket of popcorn and enjoy yourself

My Thoughts: 3.5/5 stars

This was a great suspenseful read! THE SHADOW BOX by Luanne Rice is a quick moving thriller but for some reason I had some issues connecting with parts of it. The beginning starts out strong and I found myself completely engaged but as we got towards the halfway point, I found my mind starting to wander. Looking at other reviews, I’m definitely in the minority here. I think this is more so a me thing than the book. I absolutely plan on picking up more from Rice in the future though. The writing was solid, the characters had a good amount of development, and the mystery at hand kept me intrigued.
