I MEAN YOU NO HARM – Beth Castrodale (Released August 3rd, 2021)

Book Description:

The enemy of my enemy is my sister

Career criminal Vic Doloro isn’t the kind of guy you’d send a card to on Father’s Day. Layla Shawn never has. She’s spent most of her thirty-two years estranged from her father and haunted by the mysterious death of her mother.

Then Vic dies, leaving Layla—an unemployed artist—a tempting inheritance of ill-gotten money. Urging her to take the money is Vic’s other daughter, Bette, with whom Layla shares a troubled past. On a cross-country road trip. the two women mend fences, but Layla finds herself caught in the middle of an unsettled and lethal score between her father and a man who knows more than he should about her mother’s death.

As Layla zeroes in on the truth and wrestles her own demons, she finds herself face to face with a killer.

My Thoughts: 3/5 stars

With I MEAN YOU NO HARM, I was introduced to a new-to-me author. The premise had me immediately intrigued and I was pleased with how quick this was to get through. I’ll never complain about a fast-paced mystery or thriller, even if certain things don’t work the best for me, that will always give it high marks in my opinion. The parts I loved the most in this book were when we were in the POV of the killer. What does that say about me that I thoroughly enjoy that perspective in murder mysteries? There were a couple parts throughout the book that didn’t work perfectly for me – mainly some pieces towards the end. I feel like there were some portions that could have been cut out or at least simplified in their explanations to still have the same impact (if that makes sense). Overall, this was a solid little mystery and I will definitely pick up more from Castrodale in the future!
