Finally adding in some more Dean Koontz – I have yet to read Watchers but I know Chandra won’t rest until I do!

THE HOUSE AT THE END OF THE WORLD – Dean Koontz (Released January 24th, 2023)

Book Description:
Soon no one on Earth will have a place to hide in this novel about fears known and unknown by #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense Dean Koontz.
In retreat from a devastating loss and crushing injustice, Katie lives alone in a fortresslike stone house on Jacob’s Ladder island. Once a rising star in the art world, she finds refuge in her painting.
The neighboring island of Ringrock houses a secret: a government research facility. And now two agents have arrived on Jacob’s Ladder in search of someone—or something—they refuse to identify. Although an air of menace hangs over these men, an infinitely greater threat has arrived, one so strange even the island animals are in a state of high alarm.
Katie soon finds herself in an epic and terrifying battle with a mysterious enemy. But Katie’s not alone after all: a brave young girl appears out of the violent squall. As Katie and her companion struggle across a dark and eerie landscape, against them is an omnipresent terror that could bring about the end of the world.
My Thoughts: 5/5 stars
The last Koontz book I read was LIGHTNING last year for our #buddyreadstodiefor book club. I know I really should be picking up more of his books – I hate that someone told me in high school that Koontz was better than King and I was dumb for liking King, so naturally I refused to read Koontz out of spite. It clearly isn’t an either/or situation and I’m happy to be picking up his books.
I have to say, after a couple slower suspense books, this is exactly what I needed. It’s a fast read, it’s unique, and that last quarter of the book. I thought I had it all figured out then he had my head spinning! And a shoutout to Michael J, the perfectly named fox of the book. Koontz has a way of writing animals that is truly unmatched. I had a lot of fun with this and it was the crazy thrill ride I desperately needed in a book.
