MY MISSING DAUGHTER – Ellery Kane (Released October 8th, 2024)

Book Description:

It’s her first trip away. But she never came home…

The old camping bus pulls up outside my house in the middle of the night. Rain is pounding against the windows, thunder rattling, but I’d recognize the sound of the engine anywhere.

Confusion races through me. My daughter Willow and her best friend must be back early from their trip. I jump up and rush to meet them.

But when I pull open the door, it’s not Willow on the doorstep. It’s a man, holding her keys. Blood roars in my ears as he explains he was hired anonymously to drive it back.

My heart is pounding. I don’t understand. Where is my daughter?

I push past him and run out into the rain, wrenching the door of the bus open. It’s empty. The girls are gone.

And in the back, there are signs of a struggle. Clumps of Willow’s hair on the floor. Their belongings trashed. I stop breathing.

Where are they? What’s happened to my daughter? And churning in my stomach is the most terrifying question of all: What will it take to get her back?

A jaw-dropping, unputdownable psychological thriller packed with twists that will leave you breathless. Perfect for fans of Shari Lapena, Lisa Jewell and Lucy Clarke’s One of the Girls.

My Thoughts: 4/5 stars

The first trip away from home and without your parents is exciting and mildly nerve inducing, because you’re on your own and need to figure things out as you go. Willow and Amelia are 19 years old and off on their first major roadtrip to get inspiration for a book they’re writing together. Of course, Tracy and Candice are nervous about it, but they trust their daughters to be safe. Their worst fears become a reality when the bus returns to Chicago without their daughters – and so begins the desperate search for the girls.

We get two POV’s in this story: Tracy trying to find her daughter and Willow during their trip. Despite seeing through the eyes of a teenager throughout most of the book, this definitely wouldn’t qualify as a YA novel, so don’t let that deter you. Some of the choices these girls make even had me anxious and frustrated. While I won’t understand this from the perspective of a mother and the high levels of panic this situation would cause, I can still feel it in Tracy’s POV. How far are these moms willing to go to find their daughters and have them safely returned?

The pacing was great, there were enough twisty moments to keep you hooked, and I’ll be curious to see what others think of the ending of the book. Here’s to finding a new-to-me author that I can look for more books from!
