PROMISES IN THE DARK – Ashley Elizabeth (Released October 17th, 2026)
This is book four the in The Alarie Heirs series and is now available for download and on Kindle Unlimited!

Book Description:
Promises. They’re easy to make. Even easier to break.
Which is why it’s nearly impossible for me to believe a man I don’t know when he promises me the one thing I’ve always desired: Freedom. But when I risk everything by faking my death and showing up at his home, he remains a man of his word, vowing to help me escape the life I was forced into.
As I wait for my chance at a new beginning, I offer to be the nanny for his little girl, never expecting her to steal half my heart, while her father, a dangerous man who somehow becomes my safe haven, claims the other. And for the first time in my life, I’m forced to question what I want more: The freedom I’ve always dreamed of… Or the family I’ve never had.
There’s only one problem. Even in death, my husband will find me. And he’ll stop at nothing to destroy me. But to get to me, he’ll have to go through the one man willing to burn the world down to keep me safe.
The only man my heart beats for: Alessandro Alarie.
My Thoughts: 4/5 stars
I love this series. This is book four with the Alarie Heirs and I can’t get enough of them. Once again, we have a MMC and FMC that come to life and seem to just be perfectly matched in their own ways. We get Alex and Charlotte’s story this time around, and let me tell you, these two won’t be forgotten. What goes from an arrangement of convenience turns into a mafia love story.
Charlotte is desperate to get away from her abusive husband. After an encounter with a stranger in a bathroom, she takes her opportunity at freedom and tries to fake her own death while escaping to the Alarie Estate. Being mistaken for the new nanny, she meets the man who offered to save her that day. Alessandro is the most dangerous one of the Alarie family and he agrees to help her start a new life, as long as she stays at the estate and helps watch his daughter. While normally, I’m not a fan of the single parent trope, this one worked for me. I think it’s because of how well the author wrote the story and the characters. The dynamic between them just wouldn’t work without the single dad and nanny trope.
Charlotte has endured so much trauma and abuse that she never believed she could be anything but weak or a victim. It was refreshing to see how Alex helped her and took care of her. He showed her he cared and could protect her from the life she left behind, not just empty promises. This might be a hard read for some throughout the book. however, that ending will make it all worth it. I can only hope for more from this series, and while you don’t have to read the other three books, you’d be doing yourself a disservice because they are all phenomenal.
