Dark Tower Reread – The Gunslinger

With the countdown beginning for the film releasing, it’s finally time to reread one of my favorite series. It’s been at least a decade since I read any of these Dark Tower books and I’m so ready to go back!

I’m starting my journey back to the Dark Tower tonight – time to start THE GUNSLINGER. I have my beautiful reading copy – the illustrated Plume edition.

For those of you that haven’t read this series, here’s the synopsis for book one:

In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces readers to one of his most enigmatic heroes, Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger.

He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland pursues The Man in Black, encounters an alluring woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the Kid from Earth called Jake. Both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike, The Gunslinger leaves readers eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

I’m so excited to revisit this series. I know that the movie isn’t going to be an exact adaptation of the books (I’m so happy they’ve announced that, otherwise there would be a lot of angry viewers). This is the year for Stephen King fans! The remake to IT, The Mist TV series, Mr Mercedes, and now The Dark Tower. Oh! And a new book – SLEEPING BEAUTIES.

Have you read the Dark Tower books? Are you going to read or reread them before the movie comes out?
