Happy Friday! Finally this week is over and we can head into April.
THE LAST FINAL GIRL – Stephen Graham Jones
So this was one I picked up because Amazon recommended it due to previously ordered books – well done, Amazon.
My Thoughts: 2.5/5 stars!
This is so hard for me because I so badly wanted to love this book. I’ll keep this short and sweet since it is one that just didn’t work for me. THE LAST FINAL GIRL by Stephen Graham Jones had a premise that sounded amazing and just what I was looking for – I mean, a battle to be THE final girl? Bring it on!
Unfortunately, where it fell short was the execution. I just could not get into this because of the format it was written. It’s almost like it wanted to be a script but it also tried to be a novel. I was so focused on trying to figure this format out that it completely took me out of the story and I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. I struggled with the fact there weren’t any chapters. I read chapter to chapter, so when it’s just broken up into three parts with no real breaks in between it can drag for me.
This was definitely a “it’s not you, it’s me” scenario with this book. I know many other horror readers that loved this. Just know going into this that it has a different writing format and long “chapters”. So if you’re anything like me, then those might feel way too long. Overall, I loved the concept and would definitely recommend to the diehard horror fans!
