THE EIGHTH SISTER – Robert Dugoni
A pulse-pounding thriller of espionage, spy games, and treachery by the New York Times bestselling author of the Tracy Crosswhite Series.
Former CIA case officer Charles Jenkins is a man at a crossroads: in his early sixties, he has a family, a new baby on the way, and a security consulting business on the brink of bankruptcy. Then his former bureau chief shows up at his house with a risky new assignment: travel undercover to Moscow and locate a Russian agent believed to be killing members of a clandestine US spy cell known as the seven sisters.
Desperate for money, Jenkins agrees to the mission and heads to the Russian capital. But when he finds the mastermind agent behind the assassinations—the so-called eighth sister—she is not who or what he was led to believe. Then again, neither is anyone else in this deadly game of cat and mouse.
Pursued by a dogged Russian intelligence officer, Jenkins executes a daring escape across the Black Sea, only to find himself abandoned by the agency he serves. With his family and freedom at risk, Jenkins is in the fight of his life—against his own country.
My Thoughts: 4/5 stars!
Some reviews I like to keep short and sweet, and this is one of those times! This was my introduction to Robert Dugoni and I was incredibly impressed and definitely upset I hadn’t heard of him before. I will be going back and keeping an eye out for his back log when I’m at the book store now.
THE EIGHTH SISTER is equal parts espionage/spy thriller and legal thriller. We get the best of both of these genres and I loved it. If you’ve followed my reviews for awhile, then you know that I’m a sucker for a good espionage thriller. This one did not disappoint and had the great pacing that I’ve come to expect from these types of books. Dugoni’s characterization was just enough to fully flesh out some of the characters and there’s plenty of action to keep you sucked in.
If you’re a fan of the CIA thrillers, secret agency groups, assassins, and cat-and-mouse games then you need to pick this one up! I see on Goodreads that it lists this book as the first in the Charles Jenkins series, so I’m really excited to see where Dugoni takes us next.
