July is just beginning and I’ve got plenty of reviews coming at you already!
Thanks to the author for the free copy in exchange for my honest review.
THE PATIENCE OF A DEAD MAN – Michael Clark (out now!)
He just spent his last dollar on a run-down house, but someone’s been waiting a long time for this day to come.
Tim Russell bet everything on a handyman’s dream; a quaint but dilapidated farmhouse in New Hampshire. Newly single after a messy divorce, his plan is to live in the house as he restores it for resale. To his horror, as soon as the papers are signed and his work starts, ghosts begin to appear. A bone-white little boy; a woman covered in flies.
Tim can’t afford to leave and lose it all, so he turns to his real estate agent Holly Burns to help him decide whether or not he has any shot at fixing this haunting problem. Can they solve the mystery before he loses his investment…or perhaps even his life?
My Thoughts: 4/5 stars
I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect when going into this book. I knew it was going to be a thriller and there were some supernatural elements to it. I loved this combination and I was pleasantly surprised with how captivated I was. A haunted house story that doesn’t feel like the rest of them.
Tim is newly divorced and wants to find a project to sink himself into. He finds an old farmhouse that is in desperate need of a facelift and some repairs – due to location and the quaint charm it has it’s a handyman’s dream job. Tim plans to live there as he renovates and is hoping for a quick turnaround.
His plan seems to go up in smoke when the hauntings begin. Ghosts start to appear and threaten everything he’s working for. Will he be able to stop the hauntings and make it out with his life?
This was a creepy and scary read. I don’t know about you, but there’s something about certain haunted house and ghost stories that give me that eerie “there’s something behind me” feeling. Well, Clark hit that nail on the head. The writing was fantastic and the story had a great pacing to it. Nothing that lost my interest and I enjoyed the scares throughout. Would definitely recommend to those looking for a good haunted house story!
