Book one in the #bravethebacklist challenge!
I’ve had this book sitting on my shelves for years – I saw Chandra share it and I knew I needed to get it.
BEAUTY – Sarah Pinborough
I’ll also be picking up CHARM and POISON from this same series!
Book Description:
An enticing contemporary retelling of the classic story of Sleeping Beauty. While the the handsome prince, the evil fairy, the beautiful girl and of course the spindle all appear, Sarah Pinborough’s charming and provocative spin on the story will captivate fans of the fairy tale all over again.
The third of three brand-new retellings of classic fairy tales by Sarah Pinborough
My Thoughts: 4/5 stars
I’m a big fan of fairytale retellings and I’m also a fan of Sarah Pinborough – so this was a no-brainer for me. I’m kicking myself that I’ve had this sitting on my shelves untouched for so long. BEAUTY is one of three books in the Tales of Kingdoms series. Based on this one, I will definitely be continuing!
While at its core this one is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, Pinborough takes elements from a few other fairytales. Initially I though this was going to be a Beauty and the Beast, but once I got into it it was very clear it was Sleeping Beauty. We have a spoiled Prince and the Huntsman his parents (the King and Queen) have hired to accompany him on his adventure through the woods. On their journey they encounter Petra and her grandmother. They’re experiencing a problem with wolves and Petra enlists the help of the Prince and the Huntsman.
This is a really quick read. Some dark elements, blood and gore, romance, and it’s all cleverly woven together like I would expect Pinborough to do. If you like a darker fairytale, then you’ll want to pick this one up! Now, on to the next books in the series.
