My Thoughts: 4/5 stars
After a couple of lackluster books, this is EXACTLY what I needed to end out the month of May! Jagger Cole hasn’t let me down yet and I’m so happy to have another new series unfolding. Best part about THE DEVIL WE CRAVE is that it is completely standalone and not connected to any previous series or books from Cole. No required reading necessary! Although I do recommend anything else by Cole.
Where are my dark academia fans at? This book is for you and oh boy, the spice! There is a lot of introductions and background on the mafia family tree we’ll more than likely be interacting with throughout the new series, and I know that can slow down the pacing in the beginning. Always trust the process and I know I’ll be happy for it later on.
While I loved our FMC and MMC, I could have done with a little less on the TikTok references and mentions. It takes you out of it after a few times but the chemistry between Achilles and Yelena made it all worth it. I highly recommend, as always, to double check the TW before starting. I know this is a college romance but it IS a dark one and involves the mafia. So there’s plenty of darkness and violence to go around. I cannot wait for book two and to work our way through that mafia family tree.
