Book Description:

A new STANDALONE enemies to lovers, dark mafia romance from USA Today bestselling author Jane Henry.

I used to be someone important. Now I’m nobody. I have no money, no friends, and no way to escape. Everything has been taken from me and all that’s left is my body… and today that’s being taken from me, too. Torin McCarthy just spent a small fortune to make me his.

He says I’m safe now. He says he’s not like the others. But I’ve heard promises from dangerous men before — and every one of them was a lie.

My Thoughts: 5/5 stars

Jane Henry is an auto-buy author for a reason – her books are so addictive to read and I know I need some time cleared in my schedule before I start. Those short chapters are the perfect recipe for a never ending cycle of, “it’s only a few pages, I’ll finish this next chapter.” Then before you know it, you’re halfway through the book. Henry is back with the next book in her McCarthy Family Legacy series and we get to meet Torin and Valentina this time around. I feel like a broken record when reviewing Henry’s books, but the way she writes her characters, the chemistry just jumps off the page. With every book I think that I’ve found my favorite duo, then I read the next book and they manage to top the last book.

Valentina is kidnapped and sent off to auction – Torin is sent to save her and bring her back home. Understandably, she is hesitant to trust the man who literally purchased her, why would she trust him? Well, we all know what happens with the forced proximity trope, they slowly start to grow on each other and begin to have feelings. While there is a lot of spice here, the banter between Valentina and Torin is perfect. Will she leave when offered her freedom? Or will she stay with the man she slowly began to fall in love with?

As always with this series, it is a dark romance novel. There is some violence that comes with the mafia territory and I’d expect nothing less. I hope there’s more to come and I can’t wait to meet our next duo! While this is a standalone, I still recommend picking up the other books in the series because they’re all equally addictive reads and you’ll fall in love with each couple.
