THE WOMAN IN THE DARK – Vanessa Savage (Releasing March 12th, 2019)
A creepy cover to go with a creepy book!
My Thoughts: 5/5 stars!
Talk about an incredible debut! I couldn’t believe it that this was the first from Vanessa Savage – needless to say, I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for more from her in the future. THE WOMAN IN THE DARK is an incredible dark and creepy thriller that dips into some horror elements. I wouldn’t call it a straight up horror, but the eerie and foreboding feeling lingers throughout.
Being forced to moved into her husband’s childhood home, Sarah is still recovering from the loss of her mother. A nice idyllic home by the sea – the perfect place to relax and recuperate from an accidental overdose on sleeping pills, right? Well, one catch, this home didn’t get the nickname Murder House for nothing. Sarah begins to pour herself into restoring the dilapidated home despite what the locals have been telling her.
This deals in mental health and abuse as we are pulled into the mind of Sarah and experience her turmoil during this time. Savage throws us plenty of twists and turns and keeps you on your toes throughout. The creepy atmosphere of the house is the perfect setting and gives you sense of “someone is behind me” that you just can’t shake. I’m amazed that this is a debut novel and I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!
